Being the Sons of Anarchy fans we are, and knowing the kind of woman Gemma Teller-Morrow (Katey Sagal) was, it’s hard for us to imagine Katey portraying none other than a beat cop. But, that is the newest development in Katey’s incredible career – she’s taken on the role of Randy, a practical street cop, in CBS’s new pilot, Superior Donuts.
The film is a revamped pilot, based on a former production of the same name, and “follows the relationship between the owner of a donut shop, Arthur (Judd Hirsch), his new young employee (Jermaine Fowler) and their patrons in a gentrifying neighborhood of Chicago.” The cast, according, to Deadline News, also includes Maz Jobrani (Axis of Evil), David Koechner (The Office), and Rell Battle (Maul Dogs). Randy (Katey Sagal) has Superior Donuts on her beat, and and is a tenured cop who is fazed by very little.
The new comedy is based on the play by Tracy Letts, and promises to be a howling good time. It’s currently in pre-production, and has a tentative release date of March 2017. Will you plan on watching Katey Sagal in Superior Donuts when it premieres? Are you happy she’s taken on a comedic role, or do you prefer her more serious roles like that of Gemma Teller-Morrow?
