This one is admittedly really close to my heart. It happened in my hometown; a drunk driver crashed into a motorcyclist, killing him instantly. William Nash JR was travelling on Susquehanna Street in downtown Binghamton, NY on Sunday June 26, 2016, when his life was taken because another man decided to drive drunk. We hear of these stories all of the time, which we shouldn’t, because it should never happen – especially in your hometown. Friends and family of William Nash held a candlelight vigil to honor his memory.

Nash’s sister, Kulonnie Thomas said,

“Somebody else chose to take my brother’s fate.¬†Because they got behind the wheel drinking. You wanna drink, go sleep on the steps, go sleep at a friend’s house. Do not get behind the wheel because you’re taking somebody else’s life.”

His wife Elena, who is currently overwhelmed by all of the support in the community says,

“It means that everybody is loved.¬†They’re showing me the love, the family, it’s respect to me. And I appreciate that. You know, it’s a lot for me to endure right now. And I’m trying to be strong.”

No wife should have to try to stay strong because a drunk driver chose her husband’s last ride.

The candlelight vigil was held on Susquehanna Street, where the accident happened. Watch the news story below, and offer your condolences for the Nash family in the comments section! Tell us your thoughts on how we can work together to prevent drunk driving and more fatalities as a result!
