The Anti-Christmas Christmas Song, by Katey Sagal and The Forest Rangers

When you think of the song Greensleeves, what comes to mind is a rhythmically upbeat, bright, happy tune. The song is widely used as a Christmas song, mostly for it’s joyful qualities. However, the version of the song covered by Katey Sagal and The Forest Rangers, specifically for Sons of Anarchy, is quite the opposite.

The song played during Season 7, Episode 7: Greensleeves. The episode was emotionally fracturing – with Gemma (Teller-Morrow, Katey Sagal) fearing Jax (Teller, Charlie Hunnam) was setting her up for her expected death when he calls her to the cabin to help with his “mother-son” dilemma.

Katey and The Forest Rangers transformed the song, Greensleeves, into a haunting tune, as they dramatically decreased the tempo of the song and performed it in a minor key, just to set it miles apart from the original, happier version of the tune. Take a listen below, and let us know your thoughts in the comments. How do you feel about the anti-Christmas version of this widely popular Christmas song?
