One of my all time favorite songs from the Sons of Anarchy soundtrack is “Johnny I Hardly Knew Ya”, done by Dropkick Murphys. The band is an American Celtic Punk Rock group that formed in Massachusetts in 1996.

They have an awesomely heavy sound, with deep Irish influences. Their rendition of the song was perfect for the scene in Season 1, episode 8 “The Pull”, when the Mayans attempted a hit on SOA President, Clay Morrow (Ron Perlman), as he was meeting with the IRA about the gun trade.

The episode aired on October 22, 2008, was written by Kurt Sutter and Jack LoGuidice, and directed by Paris Barclay. It was the same episode where Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) killed ATF Agent Josh Kohn (Jay Karnes) for stalking and harassing Tara Knowles (Maggie Siff).

Watch the Sons of Anarchy music video and listen to the song, it’ll definitely bring back memories of this epic Season 1 episode for you. Leave your thoughts in the comments – do you like Dropkick Murphys version of the song? Why or why not?
