Review of The Bastard Executioner – Pilot Episodes 1 & 2

Like many other die-hard Kurt Sutter fans, I wanted to see the two-hour premiere episode of The Bastard Executioner. I watched all two hours, and I am blown away. Reading all of the social media comments about the episode, it appears that with TBX you’re either all in, or all out.

I am mixed; it was brutal, even for Kurt Sutter. I agree with the masses – getting used to the Welsh dialect is a bit tough, though I’m sure we’ll get the hang of it with future episodes. The main character, Wilkin Brattle (Lee Jones), is no Jax Teller or Charlie Hunnam, but yeah… he’s hot.

It is definitely difficult to get used to seeing Katey Sagal play Annora, however I am definitely loving the fact that we get to see her and hubby Kurt Sutter side-by-side on screen. Kurt himself portrays the Dark Mute, ironic considering Otto Delany, his character in Sons of Anarchy, also had a pretty permanent speech problem.

Overall, TBX is full of blood and action, and already has me emotionally invested. What about you? Leave your thoughts in the comments – are you all in or all out on this one? Is it already too much, or do you want more? Check out this clip from TBX while you gather your thoughts.
