The song “The Lost Boy” by Greg Holden was featured on the fifth season of Sons of Anarchy, episode four, “Stolen Huffy”, during Opie’s memorial. It’s the perfect somber tune as the members of SAMCRO say their final goodbyes.

The scene begins as Jax sits on the rooftop of the clubhouse reminiscing about the times spent with Opie. All of the club members are inside saying their final goodbyes and preparing Opie’s coffin for burial. Opie’s body is shown surrounded by his favorite hat, jewelry, and a bottle of Patron inside his coffin. Jax and Bobby walk into the clubhouse filled with all  everyone stands to honor Jax. Jax struggles to hold back his tears as he walks up to Opie’s side. He places a childhood photo of them together in Opie’s vest and says “I’ll see you later brother”. The song continues to play as Jax leads Tig, Bobby, Chibs, and Happy as they carry Opie’s casket out to the hearse. Jax gives Opie’s casket one final look and shuts the hearse door.

I don’t know about you, but as soon as this song started playing during Opie’s wake scene I just lost it. It was hard to hold back the tears, especially when Jax puts the photo in Opie’s vest. The Lost Boy Lyrics:

I left my home still as a child
I walked a thousand sorry miles
To wait for my father, to gather up his truth

He said my boy you’ve got to run
Don’t wait for me, don’t wait for mum
We’ll come get you, when it’s safe for us to move

So I waited many years,
Held back the pain behind my tears
For my father, to come find me like he said

And in that time I was alone,
So many years without my home
I made brothers of a different kind instead

And in the time I didn’t know,
Just how hard the wind could blow
Towards disaster, and the things that I would see

I never found my father,
I never found my mother
Even would I know in my lifetime I will be

A hero into the masses,
To those born without chances
There’s a freedom that everyone deserves

I know there’s greed and there’s corruption
I’ve seen death and mass destruction
But I’m telling you, and I hope that I’m heard

And I will not be commanded,
And I will not be controlled
And I will not let my future go on,
Without the help of my soul

And I will not be commanded,
And I will not be controlled
And I will not let my future go on,
without the help of my soul

And I will not be commanded,
And I will not be controlled
And I will not let my future go on,
without the help of my soul

I will not be commanded,
I will not be controlled
And I will not let my future go on,
Without the help of my soul
