Songs of Anarchy: Come Join the Murder

forest-rangers-450“Come Join the Murder” was recorded by Sons of Anarchy’s in-house band, the Forest Rangers, and sung by Jake Smith, a.k.a. The White Buffalo. The lyrics were penned by the show’s creator, Kurt Sutter.

Come Join the Murder Lyrics
There’s a blackbird perched outside my window
I hear him calling
I hear him sing
He burns me with his eyes of gold to embers
He sees all my sins
He reads my soul

One day that bird, he spoke to me
Like Martin Luther
Like Pericles

Come join the murder
Come fly with black
We’ll give you freedom
From the human trap
Come join the murder
Soar on my wings
You’ll touch the hand of God
And He’ll make you king
And He’ll make you king

On a blanket made of woven shadows
Flew up to heaven
On a raven’s glide
These angels have turned my wings to wax now
I fell like Judas from grace tonight

On that day that he lied to me
Like Martin Luther
Like Pericles

Come join the murder
Come fly with black
We’ll give you freedom
From the human trap
Come join the murder
Soar on my wings
You’ll touch the hand of God
And He’ll make you king
And He’ll make you king

I walk among the children of my fathers
The broken wings, betrayal’s cost
They call to me but never touch my heart, no
I am too far
I’m too lost

All I can hear is what he spoke to me
Like Martin Luther
Like Pericles

Come join the murder
Come fly with black
We’ll give you freedom
From the human trap
Come join the murder
Soar on my wings
You’ll touch the hand of God
And He’ll make you king
And He’ll make you king

So now I curse that raven’s fire
You made me hate, you made me burn
He laughed aloud as he flew from Eden
You always knew, you never learn

The crow no longer sings to me
Like Martin Luther
Or Pericles

Come join the murder
Come fly with black
We’ll give you freedom
From the human trap
Come join the murder
Soar on my wings
You’ll touch the hand of God
And He’ll make you king
And He’ll make you king

Come join the murder
Come fly with black
We’ll give you freedom
From the human trap
Come join the murder
Soar on my wings
You’ll touch the hand of God
And He’ll make you king
And He’ll make you king

  1. I am completely “twisted up” with emotion and sadness that SOA has come to an end?!!! Seriously, im a wreck?!! I have never been so wrapped up in a tv show before. I’m so grateful to have jumped on the SAMCRO train and just adore the entire cast and can’t wait to see what Mr. Sutter’s genius mind is going to feed us next!!! SOA fan for life!!

    1. As for ALL the songs on SOA, the finale song is in my top 5 of the series!!! I have looked forward to hearing what songs were played each week. The only thing I don’t understand is why Knockin on Heaven’s Door wasn’t played during the finale episode…only in the preview. It was perfect for this show!!!

  2. This was the best show, Great story,I love outlaws & Gangs! The Ending was BAD I cryed like a baby! Wish there could have been a happier ending to the show.

  3. I 56yrs young seen a lot of TV but hands down what an amazing series. The actors were outstanding from the veterans to the newbies all the way to the end. Kurt Sutter what you have given the world is by far the best story ever put on seluloid whe way messeges were installed and then exposed at the end was very poetic. And everything tied up to complete a ( can’t find the words) very entertaining story (that word does no justice to my thoughts or your work).I felt like I lost my best friend when it was over. The only thing that could complete my hunger for Entainment before I die would be a Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl Victory but if not I am very very sati citied. Thank You and Good bye my dear friends.

  4. I don’t know whether to love or hate you Kurt Sutter, 2 days later and I’m still crying, you will be missed SOA….

  5. Amazing, makes me cry, Kurt you are a wonderful story teller. Thank you, Thank you.
I am watching the series over again, I can’t say goodbye. I watched the first 4 episodes last night!! Now that it is all said and done, it’s great to go back to the beginning, everything makes sense.

  6. SOA lives forever!!! This song will ever remind me of the final, well done Kurt Sutter your writing is inspirational, indefinite and insane…you are the man.

  7. Very fitting song and gives me chills and yes it was hands down the greatest show ever….I’m very certain that that Kurt Sutter will make another one and it will star Abel everything points at it in my opinion and I can not wait!!!!!!

  8. A group of crows is called a “murder of crows.” The title and the lyric are genius, and the song was perfect for the finale.

  9. This is the perfect song, to the perfect ending of the greatest series ever written. Kurt Sutter you are amazing. I cried Tuesday night at the season finale and still tear up every time I see anything SOA. I’m still mourning for JAX but yet feel content with the way things ended.

  10. I loved the song, it was written beautifully. I enjoyed the ride and was sad to see it end. I think any way this series ended it would be tough to take. The acting was superb and the writing rocked. I will miss my SOA family!

  11. I love that Kurt wrote this song. It speaks word to the whole series. I believe that Gemma is the black bird “crow”, like she has in her room in cages, and she is the one who tells all these lies to Jax. She is telling Jax, “Come join the murder come join the black (SAMCRO)… Come touch the hand of God and he’ll make you king (When Jax becomes President)” Jax would be the person singing in this situation. The song pretty much sums up the entire series of Jax and Gemma’s relationship. Then Jax realizes all the lies and he doesn’t trust Gemma anymore, “Now I curse that raven’s fire, You made me hate, You made me burn.” I have so much respect for Kurt as a writer and the entire cast as actors. Outstanding!

  12. This song is the main reason the finale will remain on my DVR. Here’s hoping for a CD release soon of the final season’s music.

  13. This song gives me chills. It makes me want to cry because I see the final scene every time I hear it. Love the show and hate that it’s over. Awesome song. You can’t listen to it without feeling something.

  14. I am so sad that SOA is over…. I cried my eyes out watching the final ride for Jax. What an amazing show! I was glued every week through the 7 year run. This song was perfect for his “last ride”
We love you Jax and you will be missed ;-(

  15. Great song! Great ending! Wish it didn’t have to end! Great job Kurt Sutter, keeping us guessing all the way till the end!

  16. We are all sad that SOA is over, but I don’t think anyone will ever produce a more beautiful or poetic finale. I am in aw. Kurt Sutter you gave us all tears and gave SOA the dignified ending it deserved, thank you.
